Since 1954 when our parish opened in a lumberyard’s storage space called “The Barn,” St. Ignatius Parish has served the ever-growing and changing population of Sacramento’s Arden-Arcade district. Sacramento’s Catholic bishop and the people of this neighborhood had invited the Society of Jesus, also known as the Jesuits, to establish a parish and a grammar school here, pastoral works that eventually encouraged the development of two secondary schools, Jesuit High and Cristo Rey High Schools that serve our metropolitan area.
This Jesuit parish serves as a vibrant liturgical and catechetical center that welcomes a diverse population. Our liturgical and catechetical ministries are complemented with a strong commitment to Jesus’ gospel of justice and peace, and our commitment to his message is lived out in a wide variety of social ministries and in our Center for Ignatian Spirituality. Core tenets of St. Ignatius’ spirituality are that God’s glory is best served when we serve our brothers and sisters in need, and when we acknowledge that our flawed world is nevertheless the place where that glory continues to be revealed. Even in trying times like these.
The praise and thanksgiving we offer, the Eucharist we share, and the Scriptures we are challenged by all unite us, form us as a community of witness, commitment, and hope. We welcome you to join us, for the greater glory of God and the transformation of our little corner of this world.
