Fr. Matt Yim, S.J., is an associate pastor at St. Ignatius Loyola, Sacramento. He entered the Society of Jesus in 2010 and was ordained in June 2022.
Fr. Matt was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii. He earned a bachelor’s degree in English literature and East Asian Studies. Following his college graduation he received a fellowship through the Oberlin Shansi Memorial Association; he lived and worked in Taigu, Shanxi Province, China, teaching English as a second language to undergraduate and graduate students at the Shanxi Agricultural University. Following his years in China he returned to the United States and, while working, earned a master’s degree in Library and Information Sciences. His spiritual director at that time was Fr. Russ Roide, S.J., who helped him discern a call to religious life.
As a Jesuit, he has worked in hospitals, prisons, primary school and high school libraries, as a lecturer at Gonzaga University, and in various capacities at the parish level.
